Support

Write to support@dk-data-sci.com and a person will answer.

Commonplace is made by one person. There is no ticket queue and no bot — your email goes to someone who can actually change the thing you are writing about.

Common questions

I have forgotten my password.
Tap “Forgot your password?” on the sign-in screen. The link arrives by email, works once, and expires in an hour. You set the new password in a browser, then sign in on your phone.
Can I answer the follow-up questions later?
Yes. They appear as soon as you save a recap; swipe to snooze them and they come back at 9pm. Tap “Change time” before swiping to pick another hour, and Commonplace will use that hour from then on. If you leave without answering or snoozing, they come back at your usual hour anyway.
I am not getting the reminder.
Check that notifications are allowed for Commonplace in your iPhone Settings. The app only asks for permission after you finish or snooze a set of questions, so if you have never done either, it has never asked. The questions still appear on the Today screen either way.
How do I get my writing out?
Account → Export, as readable text or as JSON. It contains every book, recap, question and answer. This works whether or not you subscribe, and keeps working after a subscription ends.
How do I delete my account?
Account → Delete account. It asks for your password because it cannot be undone. Everything is erased immediately rather than hidden. Export first if you want to keep any of it.
The questions do not suit my book.
Commonplace asks different questions of a book that makes an argument than of one that tells a story, and it guesses which from the title. If it guessed wrong, open the book and change it under “Questions about this book”. The next question follows the new setting.
A quote is attributed to me that I did not write.
That should be impossible — quoted lines are copied from your own text — so please write in and say which recap. It is the most serious kind of bug this app can have.
How do I cancel?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple: iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves the current period running. Your notes stay readable and exportable afterwards.
